Not bad but don't get your marriage advice from a permanent doghouse resident Feb 5, 2007
I like Al. He's an intelligent guy. I respect him because he is one of the few in the medical profession who keeps himself in shape. However, his marriage ended the same day mine did. I Don't get my fitness advice from a fat guy. I Don't get my money advice from a guy who spends more than he makes. And I don't get my marriage advice from a divorced guy. Not that I am any better since until my marriage started to crumble a couple years ago my ex and I had been leading a married couples group at church called "Marriage Builders." Maybe we should have called it "Marriage Busters" because in spite of all the great "marriage enhancing material" we used including "The Doghouse Rules" it wasn't enough to turn troubled relationships around. The one book I wish I had read but I had never even heard of until after my divorce is "Boundaries in Marriage" by Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend. Many of the principles they teach go contrary to what we are usually taught in church but are highly effective in both building good relationships or breaking up bad ones. Do yourself a favor and get your relationship guidance from professionals who really know what they are taking about. It is wonderful to express love the way people like to receive it but speaking your irresponsible partners "love language" ain't gonna fix your relationship; it will just make it worse.

Great book for men to understand women Aug 30, 2003
I loved this book. This book is excellent for men who are trying to understand the women in their lives. It gives real life examples and some good common sense advise to help men understand the way women think and feel. I highly recommend it.
