Reviews - What do customers think about The Non-Pro?
A gripping thriller about the dark side of fame and fortune Jul 14, 2008
The business of movies can be deep, dark, seedy and serious. "The Non-Pro" follows Josh Makos as he finds his Hollywood insider brother Jerry dead. As badly as Josh wants to avenge his brother's death, he is reluctant to become engulfed in the same world that consumed his brother and cost him his life. But to find the killer, Josh may have no choice; there are those who want him to get involved anyway. A gripping thriller about the dark side of fame and fortune, "The Non-Pro" is highly recommended for community library thriller and mystery collections.

Informed by a real career in Hollywood, it creates a comprehensive and fascinating look at existence in the haphazard film industry as lived in a haphazardly-built desert metropolis. The lack of glamour of success, the tiny line that exists between A list success, B list security and F list patheticness. Josh Makos suprise fall into his brother's case (and fall into a movie career) mimics the disorganized career trajectories of Tinseltown's players that many are loathe to admit. Through a strong literary voice that masterfully uses literary minimalism not as an Ivy League pretense but as an effective style that feels as natural as breathing. The author understands Hollywood but the real treat is his literary voice.
