An Insuperable Faith, An Indomitable Man Apr 15, 2002
I am so indebted to this man that I do not know where to start. Abraham Kuyper was truely a man after Gods own heart. I've heard it said that "if you want to know the mind of God you must learn to use your own"; Abraham Kuyper did both, and did so indomitably. His "Sacred Theology", although written over a hundred years ago, stands monumentally in its fecundity from within the Reformed theological tradition. It remains unparalleled by any other "systematic theology" both then and now and provides an insuperable explication and defense of Reformed Confessional Orthodoxy. Written during the ascendancy of modernism and so-called "higher criticism" its relevance for todays high noon of modernity, or its "red headed" step child "postmodernism", is nonetheless trenchant. This work is just as Theologically/Philosophically and Sociologically/Anthropologically sophisticated regarding todays cultural milieu, and the redemption to be found in Jesus Christ, as it was for its own. And Kuypers "Worldview" hueristic offers a systematic and critical apparatus for engaging every area of thought and life Christianly. Abraham Kuyper was a man that was way before his time. God chose to use this valiant brother then, and through this work -even now. This is a must read for anyone that is committed to being more than equipped (both for today and tomorrow) to guard the "Trust" that has "once for all been delievered to the saints". Abraham Kuyper stood for the Truth, now that same Truth stands for him and us. Thank God !
