Item description for Apocalypse Later: Why the Gospel of Peace Must Trump the Politics of Prophecy in the Middle East by Abdu Murray...
Overview Many evangelicals have turned the ongoing struggles and conflicts in the Middle East into a crucible of prophecy debates. In Apocalypse Later, Abdu H. Murray urges Christians to change their focus on the Middle East conflict from eschatology to the gospel of Jesus Christ, because only the word of God can change hearts and provide lasting peace. Murray challenges the church to stop shouting "Apocalypse now!" and start proclaiming the good news. He contends in this eye-opening book that eschatology casts the people of the Middle East as prophetic pawns waiting for the slaughter, while the gospel sees them as real people who need to hear the good news about life in Jesus. Eschatology brings bad news, while the gospel brings good news; and where eschatology erects walls, the gospel builds bridges.
Publishers Description It's time to start proclaiming the good news.
Many evangelicals have used the ongoing conflict in the Middle East as fodder for debates over how to interpret prophecy, instead of seeing it as the human tragedy that it is. In "Apocalypse Later," former Muslim Abdu H. Murray urges Christians to change their focus from eschatology to the gospel of Jesus Christ, because only Christ can change the hearts of Jews and Muslims in the midst of conflict.
"Murray calls us back to the person of Jesus and the message of His death and resurrection, pleading with us to restore its centrality, contrary to the periphery discussions that not only detract from the gospel but actually offend the very folks we most want to reach. We need to hear and heed Murray's timely warning."--Gary R. Habermas, Distinguished Research Professor, Liberty University
"This book provides a perspective that is level-headed, insightful, and caring. It is a valuable contribution for Christians, informing them that they are talking past Muslims and Jews, and how to turn that around."--Michael Licona, Apologetics Coordinator, North American Mission Board
"Murray presents a genuinely biblical and more fruitful alternative in response to the strife, suffering, and injustices the Middle East region has endured. This is a bold--and far more promising--way forward."--Paul Copan, Pledger Family Chair of Philosophy and Ethics, Palm Beach Atlantic University

A Must Read for Understanding the Essentials of the Middel East May 19, 2009
Reading this book and speaking with the Auther gave me more understanding than 20 years of ministry on focus and importants of the task at hand in the Middle East! The non-essentials do not matter! What matters is Jesus crucified, buried and raised again for the salvation of ALL! Every thing else is minutia. Abdu M. Murray's book is an excellent tool to dispel the disputes that divide us while highlighting and bringing focus to the central issue that unites us, the gospel of Jesus. Bravo and kudos on a job well done. I will recommend you book to all I know. Our story answers the questions of the cry of sorrow, the demand for justice, and the need for love! What a Great God and Savior!
I commend Mr. Murray highly in the Lord for this excellent work!
Great read May 11, 2009
Very interesting read. Murray's background gives credibility to his views. He basically gave up his Muslim family when he became a follower of Christ, and now (through both his book and his nonprofit organization) he is sharing how to reach Muslims for Jesus. Very compelling story. It's a good reminder that Christ died for ALL, and though we may disagree about a lot of things, because Jesus loves everyone universally, that should be our approach as well.
Truly inspired Mar 24, 2009
While reading Mr. Murray's work, you can't help but realize that this was inspired by a true devotion not only to God but to discovering truth and a desire to share this with others. With all of the turmoil today I needed this book now more than ever and I hope that others (of all backgrounds) take the time to read it - you won't regret it.
Excellent book! Mar 18, 2009
Here's my take on this book: For anyone interested in the Middle East conflict and how it affects Jews, Muslims and others around the world - including Jews & Muslims themselves, as well as others regardless of their spiritual persuasion - this book is a must-read. For Christians who, in a world where the end-times is being shouted about very loudly, are wondering how to bridge the barrier to Muslims and Jews with the hope of the Gospel, this book is a must-read as well.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Obviously the insights contained in it are born from the author's personal experience, growing up in a Muslim home where these issues were wrestled with every day. He goes into those personal details throughout the book, which were emotional and compelling. Beyond that, Mr. Murray uses very well thought-out arguments for why truth is uniquely found in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and insightful explanation as to how that Truth can bring a true peace starting inward and working outward to the people of the Middle East, and the people beyond it as well.
