La reprise de la notion freudienne de Chose a conduit Lacan a introduire, dans sa theorie du desir et du sujet, un concept radicalement nouveau: celui de l'objet A comme objet-cause du desir. Tout ce que Lacan construit a partir de deux concepts (la chose et l'objet A) engage une reinterpretation de la psychanalyse dans une perspective transcendantale. L'importance que prend, dans la meme periode de son enseignement, la reference a Kant, mais aussi a Heidegger et a Merleau-Ponty, confirme que cette orientation transcendantale doit etre entendue en un sens proprement philosophique et phenomenologique. Cela ne signifie pas seulement un usage psychanalytique de la philosophie transcendantale; cela signifie aussi, en retour, une revision du questionnement transcendantal et des concepts philosophiques qui en procedent. La philosophie doit donc prendre la mesure de l'importance de cette revision, pour comprendre en quoi le "retour a Freud" de J. Lacan a ete finalement conjugue au projet d'une traversee psychanalytique de la phenomenologie (Peeters 1998)
