Reviews - What do customers think about Pursuit Of God (Repack)?
An awesome Christian book. Sep 12, 2008
I must have been living in a cave, because I had never heard of Tozer until a friend shared one of his books with me this past year - The Attributes of God. I have been hooked on Tozer ever since. He is simply amazing. He obviously had a close walk with God.
I have read this book twice and will read it many more times. And, this is from a person who almost never reads a book more than once. This is simply one of the best, if not the best, Christian books I have ever read. I have shared it with others, told people about it, etc.
If you are thinking about getting this book quit thinking and get it. You will be glad you did. I now want to read as much Tozer as I can. His writing is eye opening, intelligent, and very understandable. He doesn't use a lot of stories to convey what he wants to say, as some authors do. He uses well written, clearly put, vivid words to do it. A way that is more difficult to use, but when used correctly and by a master it is much more effective and more enjoyable to the reader. Tozer will teach and explain to you some things you would have probably never thought of on your own. His thinking about some things concerning God are unique (well, they were to me and others I know). Buy this book, it's very highly rated for a reason.
Best Devotional Book Aug 10, 2008
In my opinion this is the best devotional book I have ever read. A lot of devotional books are the product of the author's mind and not very Biblical. This is an exception. I believe this is a very Biblically accurate book. Every time I read a chapter it inspires me.Tell me what you think of my Christain fiction novel The Palace Theatre. The Palace Theatre
Contains good fragments, but overall style makes it no easy read. May 30, 2008
This is a review of "The Pursuit of God: The Human Thirst for the Divine" by Tozer.
Based on all the positive reviews I was expecting to read a kind of second C.S. Lewis. This turns out not to be the case. The book by Tozer is brief (which is a plus in my view, since it is much more difficult to write a well thought through short book, than to dump ones incoherent thoughts in many pages) and has many good fragments. My main objection to this book is the style in which Tozer writes: perhaps it is my not being a native English speaker and not being brought up with the bible and not being used to a typical 'religious writing style', but I found the style of the whole book and his choice of words/phrases rather difficult. It makes no easy reading. Much use of "thou", quotes in older English and bible passages. All together I found this rather distracting from the content. Bottom line: it was not what I expected and hoped for.
My advise: manage your expectations, and first read a few sample pages before you decide to buy this book.
This is a real keeper Apr 28, 2008
I will read this book over and over again. If you desire to know God intimately, there is no book I've seen apart from the Bible that will help you as much in your relationship with God as this book.
Thought Provoking and Convicting Apr 11, 2008
A wonderful book that will present to you the relationship a very Godly man had with his Lord. It will challenge you and inspire you if you let it.
