WAR OF CULTURES ARE FEEDING THE VULTURES Jan 25, 2005
There are many literatures, articles, books and publications in compromising western-liberal life style and its influence on Liberal Christianity. Contrary to that, this book is a good and bold attempt in filling the vacuum of addressing the growing cultural-morality mess which is being inculturated among us in the name of `liberal quest'. Author calls this in his title as, "War of our Cultures are feeding the Vultures". In thirteen chapters, A.C. Johnson is not leaving any single life issue we are facing in the contemporary society, particularly in North American Context. His poetical gift, hand drawn pictures add emphasis to his argument in defending the conservative views.
Author tries to handle wide range of complex and important social issues such as pro-life, abortion, importance of monogamy, divorce and sexual perversions. They are of course equally well argued from biblical and scientific position as the writer being a conservative Christian and Medical Doctor. It is very much interesting to note in the last chapter, even the `born again' culture is questioned when a `born againer' opt for divorce.
This book would have been complete if there is a message of `freedom from sin' in the middle of `sinful natured humanity', and that too by `Grace through Faith' which leads us to the Saving Grace of God through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who reconciles us so that we have the privilege of becoming His Children and freeing us from our sins.
This book is well written but an extra attention in formatting the contents and designs might have added interest to readers of all ages. However, I am sure it is worth buying and reading. These books are not theologically weaved for an academic reader. However, it is by a layman who holds an orthodox and conservative position of his faith expression and it should be appreciated. He has used his poetic gift of rhyme and rhythm in both these books. Uniquely, the pictures and drawings for each topic adds visual image of what the author is trying write and it retells as if it said twice. For me, this is an important document by a non-western Christian writer who is not in any way positioned his views in his colonial and subaltern contexts but based on Biblical Christian's practice.
